What we are learning

Our Topic is 

Traditions!

Week beginning: 18th November 2019

 

This week we will be continuing to explore our topic, 'Traditions!'

In Literacy we will be creating our own versions of  'The Gingerbread Man' by designing new characters. We will also be completing our progress writes! Check our writing wall over the next couple of weeks to see how much progress we have made this term! 

In Maths we are learning all about place value, focusing on the numbers 4 and 5. 

 

As always, there are many opportunities for us to learn independently, both inside and outside. Some of the provision we may access this week are:

  • Creating our own food characters.
  • Completing speech bubbles for food characters.
  • Exploring numicon.
  • Adding buttons to gingerbread men
  • Playing the role play café.

Week beginning: 11th November 2019

 

This week we will be continuing to explore our topic, 'Traditions!'

In Literacy we will begin changing the story of 'The Gingerbread Man' by creating our own food character. We will draw our new character and focus on labelling it.

In Maths we are learning about recording mathematically. We will learn how to complete a tally chart and pictographs.

 

As always, there are many opportunities for us to learn independently, both inside and outside. Some of the provision we may access this week are:

  • Building bridges for the gingerbread man, using a variety of materials.
  • Representing numbers 1-10 using different resources.
  • Drawing and labelling our favourite foods.
  • Sequencing the story of 'The Gingerbread Man' whilst sharing a snack with friends.
  • Playing the role play café.

 

Week Beginning: 4th November 2019

 

This week we will be continuing to explore our new topic, 'Traditions!'

In Literacy we will delve deeper into our story 'The Gingerbread Man' through discussion and role play.

In Maths we are learning about time. We will begin sequencing our daily routine, using the language 'first', 'next', 'then' and 'finally'. We will also be using sand timers to measure time.

 

As always, there are many opportunities for us to learn independently, both inside and outside. Some of the provision we may access this week are:

  • Making 'Gingerbread Man' crafts
  • Playing in our birthday party role play
  • Labelling characters from our story
  • Measuring how long it takes to build a tower
  • Sequencing our morning and evening routines

Week Beginning: 28th October 2019

 

This week we will be beginning our new topic, 'Traditions!'

In Literacy we will read the story of 'The Gingerbread Man' and begin exploring the story. We will be learning to retell the story using story mountains, words and actions. 

During our afternoon carpet session, we will be learning all about traditions. We will have a chance to talk about our own traditions and consider how they might be different to other people.

 

As always, there are many opportunities for us to learn independently, both inside and outside. Some of the provision we may access this week are:

  • Birthday party role play
  • Cutting and sticking candles to cakes
  • Designing mehndi for Diwali
  • Designing Rangoli for Diwali
  • Making story mountains for 'The Gingerbread Man'.
