What we are learning

Autumn 1 2020/2021

 

Welcome to Robins! We are so excited to welcome you into the class. 

 

This half term, we will be focusing on settling into school. We will learn more about Bradley Barton and spend time getting to know our new environment. There will be a focus on making friends and forming positive relationships with our friends and grown ups.

 

This page will be updated weekly, to let you know what we are getting up to in class! 

Our Vehicle - Bradley Barton Tours

Week Beginning  12th October 2020:

 

This week we will be continuing our exciting new vehicle: BB Tours!
We will learn all about our school and spend time thinking about what a tour is. 

In Literacy, we are on to Week 3 of our Talk 4 Writing sequence! This week we will be focusing on changing our story by replacing one of the characters! We are getting ready for our half-termly progress write so we will be doing lots of drawing and labelling! 

In Maths, we are thinking about size and comparing objects. We will focus on using mathematical language to compare two objects.

 

As always, your child will have lots of opportunities for independent learning. These will take place across the Sparrows and Robins classrooms as well as in our outdoor space. Some of the activities your child may take part in are:

  • Playing in our shoe shop role play
  • Making numicon number lines
  • Labelling characters
  • Playing connect four with friends at the snack table
  • Creating Autumn trees at the craft table

Week Beginning  5th October 2020:

 

This week we will be continuing our exciting new vehicle: BB Tours!
We will learn all about our school and spend time thinking about what a tour is. 

In Literacy, we are on to Week 2 of our Talk 4 Writing sequence! This week we will be thinking more about characters and beginning to change our wolf character.

In Maths, we are thinking about 'more' and 'fewer.'

 

As always, your child will have lots of opportunities for independent learning. These will take place across the Sparrows and Robins classrooms as well as in our outdoor space. Some of the activities your child may take part in are:

  • Playing in our Puppet Theatre
  • Writing CVC words
  • Building patterns
  • Racing to 100 on numicon boards
  • Making birthday cards for Bradley Barton's 40th birthday

Week Beginning 28th September 2020:

 

This week we will be beginning our exciting new vehicle: BB Tours!
We will learn all about our school and spend time thinking about what a tour is. 

In Literacy, we are starting our Talk 4 Writing sequence! Our focus book is "Whiffy Wilson, The Wolf Who Would Not Go To School." This week we will read our very own version of the story and practise retelling it using a story map. 

In Maths, we are thinking about sorting objects. We will consider what 'same' means and compare objects before sorting them. 

 

As always, your child will have lots of opportunities for independent learning. These will take place across the Sparrows and Robins classrooms as well as in our outdoor space. Some of the activities your child may take part in are:

  • Playing in our Puppet Theatre
  • Building words using Fred Talk
  • Enjoying a snack with friends
  • Building a marble run
  • Sorting objects by colour
  • Creating animal homes using lego

Whiffy Wilson - Story Map

Week Beginning 21st September 2020:

 

This week we will be continuing to settle in school, as we get used to our new full time schedule. Our learning will be focused on Personal, Social and Emotional Development. We will be thinking about our feelings and trying to recognise them in ourselves and others.

 

As always, your child will have lots of opportunities for independent learning. These will take place across the Sparrows and Robins classrooms as well as in our outdoor space. Some of the activities your child may take part in are:

  • Playing in our school role play
  • Making mood monster puppets
  • Junk modelling
  • Making Number Blocks using multilink
  • Practising fine motor skills with beads and tweezers
