In Sparrows, we hope that all children will develop a love of reading. We have a wide variety of books in the library for children to read, and welcome books which are brought in from home. We ask that children read or have the opportunity to listen to a story be read to them every day.
Your child will be issued a reading book every Monday and a library book every friday. We are happy to send home more than one reading book if your child likes to read a variety of books throughout the week.
We also would like to see all children accessing their Bug Club account where they can choose from a selection of books.
In Sparrows, all children have a read communication diary. Every Friday your child will get the sounds they have been learning that week in Phonics, stuck in for you to practise with them at home. These will vary between children as our phonics groups are streamed across the unit. You will also receive some 'tricky' words to learn and high frequency words.
If your child has been recapping the same sounds you will not receive new sounds that week. This will only be for one week at any one time.
Other Home Learning
At different points through out the topics you maybe asked to complete Home Learning Challenges with your child. These will not be weekly as we know you are already busy reading books, learning phonics and working on your childs personal target. We will send home at least one challenge per half term.
We would love to hear about all the amazing things your child does at home! If your child, for example learns to ride a bike, wins a swimming badge or helps you do the cleaning, then you can fill in a magic moment and send it in to us so that we can celebrate it by sharing it to the rest of the class. We will send magic moment slips home every week but if you need anymore, please ask us! There's also a link below for you to download and print.
