Activity 3

Making natural brushes

Using sticks, leaves, grass, moss or anything else that you find and would like to try out, make your own paint brushes.  You might find a small branch or a flower that already has a brush like end that you can use.  Other wise, you need to collect your brush material and a nice straight stick and use either an elastic band or some string, wool or cotton to attach it to a stick. You can then use your brushes with paint, to create your artwork, or perhaps use them with water to "paint" temporary pictures on the pavement or a wall outside.  What effects can you get from brushes made with different materials?

You could even have a look back through some of the Outdoor activities from the last half of term and look at Miss Cox's ideas for making your own natural paint!

Have fun!
